Cowgirl Cake

This cake was made for Isabella, a girl in love with horses!
The figure is made of 50/50 gumpaste and MMF, and made to look like the birthday girl.
The chocolate cake is covered in fondant, and the paisley decals were also made out of fondant.
This little girl wanted no pink, only teal on her cake!

85th Book Cake

This cake was made for a Grandmother turning 85 years old.  She loves reading, gardening, and hummingbirds.  Her daughter picked out four titles that described her mother and I painted them on to the bindings of the books.  The two books standing were made out of styrofoam, and the two laying down were white cake.

The roses were made with gumpaste as was the hummingbird.

Baker Cake

This cake was made for my 5 year old son Owen, who likes to spend most of his time in the kitchen.  He cooks right along side me most days.  Owen requested a bakery cake for his birthday this year.  So this is what I came up with.

The cake is a baker, with side windows selling cookies, cakes, donuts, and pies.
Everything was made with fondant, except for the "Owen" topper. It was made out of gumpaste with wire support.

Chef Owen ready to handout some donuts.

And this is why I love making cakes for kids.  Their reactions are why I started making cakes.  I love being able to make something that brings so much joy to someones day.

Of course Owen was the one to cut and serve his own birthday cake.

Harry Potter Potions Cake

This cake was made for my son who asked for a Harry Potter cake that was about the magic spells created in the movie.

Gumpaste was used for all the accessories of the cake: scroll with the spell (hand painted with food coloring gel), glasses, and potion ingredients.

The gold serum was suspended above using copper tubing.

Happy Summer!

This cake was made for my little girl.
She wanted an Olaf (from the movie Frozen) in summer time!
Chocolate pearls were added to the edge and accented with tropical gumpaste flowers.
Olaf was wire based and created with a fondant/gumpaste mix.
I powdered him with luster dust to give him a shimmer snow texture.

"Happy Birthday Celeste" was carved in the "sand". To create this sandy look, the top of the cake was airbrushed with copper coloring.  Then I lightly rubbed brown sugar on top.
The seashells were white chocolate, and then hand dusted with coloring. the mini birthday cake, basket, beach ball, umbrella, and castle were all made from fondant.

And of course the entire cake was edible.
Here is the birthday girl enjoying an umbrella for a snack after her cake.

Marvel Cake for Mason

This three layer chocolate cake was made for a boy who loved all the Marvel characters,
especially Iron Man.

This cake has the "comic" feel with fondant buildings around the cake creating a Cityscape.
Fun comic sayings were added among Marvel characters.

The characters were made on edible paper and edible ink.
(Batman isn't a Marvel character but was a special request for Mason)

The comic action words were made from edible markers and edible paper.

Iron Man was made from fondant.
It is edible, or can be saved as a memento of the birthday.

Not-so-average Gender Reveal Cake

My little sister is expecting a baby soon and needed a cake.  She wanted to have a gender reveal cake to surprise everyone with the news.  I really didn't want to make the same old baby nursery cake or heaven forbid the bum cake.  I wanted something fun and exciting.  My sister and her husband love the movies, especially the popcorn.  My brother-in-law will  make a trip to the theater, buy popcorn, and drive home, just so he can enjoy the "theater popcorn" at home.

So I made a "Mama's gonna POP" cake for them.

Edible sparkling stars were made from fondant, lettering hand painted with food coloring.

The popcorn kernels were made out of fondant, and hand painted.

For the party reveal, the honors to cut the cake landed to the baby's Nana.
Boy was she surprised!
